All political parties should united against the menace of extremism and
terrorism
KARACHI, March 31: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain said that the extremists put the solidarity of the country at stake and they should be resisted. He appealed to all political parties and leaders to set aside their differences and be united against the menace of extremism and terrorism. Mr.Hussain was addressing a general workers’ meeting over phone from London here on Tuesday. A large number of party’s workers including women attended the meeting. Mr Hussain’s address was also relayed to 21 other cities simultaneously where similar gathering were also held.He asked the people of Pakistan to come forward and be united against extremist elements.Mr. Hussain has urged upon the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leadership to reciprocate the offer made by the Pakistan People’s Party recently for reconciliation.“The president and the prime minister have extended a hand of friendship and I appealed to the PML-N to positively respond to their offer for the sake of the country,” said Mr Hussain.He said the PPP and the PML-N are two major parties of the country and the MQM is ready to play its role, if needed, for an effective reconciliation between the two parties.He congratulated Shahbaz Sharif and the PML-N leaders and workers for the restoration of his government in Punjab through an interim order of the apex court.He appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for early lifting of the governor’s rule in Punjab to initiate the democratic process.Referring to the wave of violence that hit Punjab, the MQM chief urged upon the people of Punjab to rise and resist those who were trying to impose their own style of Sharia on the basis of stick and gun.He paid tribute to the law enforcing agencies for their effective timely action against those who stormed the Police Training Centre in Lahore. He also praised the efforts of Interior Adviser Rehman Malik.He appealed to all political parties and leaders to set aside their differences and be united against the menace of extremism and terrorism. He said that the extremists put the solidarity of the country at stake and they should be resisted.He asked the people of Pakistan to come forward and be united against extremist elements.Mr Hussain said that he wanted to inform people about a conspiracy to spread Talibanisation in Sindh. He said that the extremists wanted to take over the land of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai.He appealed to all residents of SIndh including doctors, engineers, students, etc, to be prepared to foil the conspiracy of what he called “outsiders” to takeover Sindh.Mr Hussain also demanded the government to stop arresting the workers of Jeye Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM).
Resolutions
The meeting also unanimously passed five resolutions which were presented by Mr Hussain.
Through first resolution, the meeting condemned the terrorist incidents in the name of Islam in the country
The general workers’ meeting also passed another resolution asking the international community to help Pakistani Army and the intelligence agencies and stop leveling allegations.
Another resolution was passed unanimously appealing all parties to accept and respect each others mandate with open heart.
Through another resolution, the MQM chief and the participants warned the Karachi Electric Supply Company to purchase furnace oil immediately to increase power production.
The meeting passed another resolution to condemn the conspiracy of a possible take over of Sindh and vowed that it would be foiled at all cost.
