To further the programme of national development and a nation-wide campaign against feudal domination, Mohajir Quami Movement was formally transformed into Muttahida Quami Movement on 26  July 1997. MQM led by its founder and leader Mr Altaf Hussain is the third largest political party of Pakistan and the second largest political party in the southern province of Sindh.

Detectives investigating the murder of Dr Imran Farooq have today (26 November) renewed their appeal for people to come forward
with information, ten weeks since he was attacked.

 Altaf Hussain Offers Condolences To Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi

LONDON: 17TH JANUARY 2012: Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain telephoned Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi and offered condolences on the death of his father and spiritual leader of the Hurs Shah Mardan Shah Pir Sahib Pagara. He said that Pir Pagara was a national asset, and the vacuum created by his passing away would not be filled easily. The sacrifices rendered by the late Pir Pagara would always be remembered.Mr Hussain hoped that Pir Sibghatullah Rashidi would continue to help his followers and other needy people as the new Pir Pagara walking on the footsteps of his deceased father. He prayed for the departed soul and courage and patience for the bereaved family members to bear this loss. KARACHI: 16TH JANUARY 2012: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has postponed its upcoming Convention “Prosperous Sindh, Strong Pakistan” scheduled to be held in Jinnah Municipal Stadium, Sukkur on 20th January in view of the current situation in the country. The decision has been taken in a joint meeting of the Co-ordination Committee. The new date of the Sukkur Convention will be announced at a later stage.

LONDON: 10TH JANUARY 2012: Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Mr Altaf Hussain has expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the spiritual leader of the Hurs and the president of Pakistan Muslim League Functional Pir Sahib Pagara. In a condolence message Mr Hussain said that Pir Sahib was a veteran politician who had played an important role in the politics of the country. He said that a chapter of the political history of the country has come to an end with the death of Pir Sahib. He further said that the vacuum created by the passing of the seasoned politician will not be filled. He said that the death of Pir Sahib Pagara was a great tragedy for Pakistan.
